Konkan Railway geared up for the monsoon.

The monsoon adorns the Konkan region with natural beauty; however, the heavy rainfall and challenging terrain also pose significant challenges for railway operations. Prioritizing passenger safety and uninterrupted rail services, Konkan Railway has undertaken extensive pre-monsoon preparations across its entire route.

As part of a proactive and visionary approach, Konkan Railway has implemented a comprehensive monsoon preparedness plan that includes infrastructure strengthening, geo-safety measures, real-time monitoring systems, enhanced patrolling, and emergency response mechanisms. Thanks to continuous advancements in geo-safety and monitoring technology, Konkan Railway is fully prepared to tackle the challenges of the monsoon season.

The monsoon schedule will remain in effect from June 15 to October 20, 2026. Speed ​​restrictions will be implemented across various sections of the route to ensure safe and reliable train operations.

Key preparations for Monsoon 2026

Infrastructure and Drainage System
● Cutting slopes have been flattened and soil nailing works carried out at select locations to enhance slope stability.
● Geological structures have been reinforced through rock bolting and shotcreting in tunnel and cutting sections, thereby mitigating the risk of rockfalls.
● Geotechnical risks have been managed through the construction of protective structures such as gabion walls, retaining walls, micropiles, and boulder netting. ● The cleaning and concrete lining of side drains and catchwater drains have been completed, ensuring smooth water drainage during the monsoon.
● Ongoing and completed slope stabilization works have led to a significant reduction in incidents of rockfalls and soil slides along the entire route.
● Portable dewatering pumps have been deployed at vulnerable locations. Thanks to these sustained efforts, there has been no major disruption to Konkan Railway services due to falling stones during the monsoon season over the past decade.

● रेल्वे मेंटेनन्स वाहने (Rail Maintenance Vehicles ) (RMVs) वीर, चिपळूण, रत्नागिरी, राजापूर रोड, कुडाळ, वेरणा, कारवार, भटकल आणि उडुपी या 9 महत्त्वाच्या ठिकाणी तैनात आहेत.
● माणगाव, चिपळूण, रत्नागिरी, कणकवली, करमळी, कारवार आणि उडुपी येथे टॉवर वॅगन्स तत्पर ठेवण्यात आल्या आहेत.

सुरक्षिततेसाठी कार्यकारी उपाययोजना
● कमी दृश्यमानतेच्या परिस्थितीत लोको पायलटांना रेल्वेचा वेग 40 किमी प्रतितास मर्यादित ठेवण्याचे निर्देश देण्यात आले आहेत. रेल्वे रुळांच्या पातळीपेक्षा 100 मिमीपेक्षा अधिक पाणी साचल्यास गाडी थांबविण्यात येईल. पाणी ओसरल्यानंतरच रेल्वे सेवा पुन्हा सुरू केली जाईल.
● माणगाव, दिवाणखवटी, चिपळूण, संगमेश्वर रोड, वैभववाडी रोड, कुडाळ, मडगाव जंक्शन, काणकोण, कारवार, भटकल आणि उडुपी येथे पूर्ण वैद्यकीय साहित्य व उपकरणांसह अपघात निवारण वैद्यकीय उपकरणे (ARME Scale-II) उपलब्ध आहेत.
● ऑपरेशन थिएटर आणि आपत्कालीन वैद्यकीय सुविधांनी सुसज्ज स्वयंचलित अपघात निवारण वैद्यकीय वाहने (Accident Relief Medical Vans ) (ARMV) रत्नागिरी आणि वेरणा येथे तैनात आहेत.
● अपघात निवारण रेल्वे (Accident Relief Train) (ART) वेरणा येथे तैनात असून 15 मिनिटांत रवाना होण्यासाठी सज्ज आहे.
● आपत्कालीन परिस्थितीसाठी स्थानिक संस्थांमार्फत JCB, पोकलेन आणि डंपर उपलब्ध ठेवण्यात आले आहेत.
● तातडीच्या प्रतिसादासाठी बॅलेस्टने भरलेल्या रेल्वेगाड्या सज्ज ठेवण्यात आल्या आहेत.

सुधारित संपर्क व्यवस्था
● सुरक्षा कर्मचाऱ्यांना नियंत्रण कक्ष व स्थानकांशी संपर्कासाठी मोबाईल फोन देण्यात आले आहेत.
● लोको पायलट आणि ट्रेन मॅनेजर्सना वॉकी-टॉकी देण्यात आले असून सर्व स्थानकांवर 25-वॅट VHF संच उपलब्ध आहेत.

● आपत्कालीन परिस्थितीत नियंत्रण कार्यालयाशी त्वरित संपर्क साधण्यासाठी मार्गावर प्रत्येक 1 किमी अंतरावर आणि 2 किमीपेक्षा जास्त लांबीच्या बोगद्यांमध्ये प्रत्येक 400 मीटरवर आपत्कालीन संप्रेषण सॉकेट्स (EMC) बसविण्यात आले आहेत.
● ART आणि ARMV मध्ये सॅटेलाइट फोनची सुविधा आहे.

तंत्रज्ञानाधारित निरीक्षण
● माणगाव, चिपळूण, रत्नागिरी, विलवडे, कणकवली, मडगाव, कारवार, भटकल आणि उडुपी येथे स्वयं-नोंदणी करणारे पर्जन्यमापक (Self-recording rain gauges ) कार्यरत आहेत.
● घोड नदी (इंदापूर–माणगाव), काळ नदी (माणगाव–गोरेगाव), सावित्री नदी (वीर–सापे वामणे) आणि वशिष्ठी नदी (चिपळूण–कामथे) येथील महत्त्वाच्या पुलांवर पूर सूचना प्रणाली कार्यरत असून धोकादायक पाणीपातळीची सूचना अधिकाऱ्यांना दिली जाते.
● पानवल व्हायाडक्ट (रत्नागिरी – निवसर), मांडवी पूल (थिविम – करमळी) , झुआरी पूल (करमळी – वेरणा) आणि शरावती पूल (होन्नावर – मंकी) येथे वाऱ्याचा वेग मोजण्यासाठी अॅनेमोमीटर बसविण्यात आले आहेत.

Round-the-clock monitoring and medical assistance
● 24×7 control rooms will be operational at Belapur, Ratnagiri, and Madgaon during the monsoon season.
● CCTV systems across all 72 stations are monitored from Station Master offices and nine RPF outposts along the route.
● Konkan Railway reviews weather conditions daily in coordination with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and sends SMS alerts to relevant officials based on weather forecasts.
● Medical teams have been kept ready at Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Verna, Madgaon, Karwar, and Udupi. First-aid kits containing essential medicines are available in the pantry cars of all Konkan Railway trains.
